There are several opinions about the meaning of Walisongo. First is the nine guardian, which signifies the number of guardians that have nine, or in Javanese. Another opinion states that the word songo/sanga comes from the word tsana which in Arabic means noble. Another opinion calls the word there comes from Javanese, which means place.

Another opinion that says that Walisongo is a da'wah assembly that was first established by Sunan Gresik (Maulana Malik Ibrahim) in 1404 AD (808 Hijri). [1] The Walisongo was a reformer of the community in their time. Their influence was felt in various forms of manifestations of new Javanese civilizations, ranging from health, growing, commerce, culture, arts, society, to government.
